2025 Mazda MX 5 Miata - Mazda didn’t specify what kind of electric powertrain the new Miata will have. It could be a fully electric vehicle (EV), a hybrid, or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Mazda’s entire lineup is slated to go at least partially electric by 2030, which means if the next-gen Miata is to survive past then—and we certainly hope it does—this is a necessary step in the legendary sports car’s evolution.
And how much will it cost? Well, that’s hard to say at this point, but we can assume that it will be more expensive than the current model, which starts at $26,830. The advanced powertrain and other enhancements will likely add some extra bucks to the sticker price. But Mazda will try to keep it reasonable and competitive with other sports cars in its segment. We think that a price in the neighborhood of $33,000 seems reasonable for the new Miata.
