Today we are talking about the churches in the Third Reich. In the second episode, we take a look at the churches' approach to the Nazi regime after the seizure of power in January 1933. The history of National Socialism and the National Socialist German Reich is closely linked to the work of the Christian churches in the Weimar Republic as well as in the Third Reich. Initial rejection of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler's radical völkisch thinking turned over the years - especially in parts of German Protestant Christianity - into an ever stronger identification with the Third Reich. As early as the Weimar Republic, movements arose that aimed to unite völkisch thinking with Christian doctrine. To this day, the German Christians stand for an increasing fraternization of mainly Protestant Christianity and National Socialism. The greatest opponent, on the other hand, was the Confessing Church, founded later, whose representatives saw in the Nazi regime and its policies a break with Christian values.
