What a fun adventure! We set out on the river on this trip to look for agate geodes that form inside fossilized coral heads. These are very cool geological oddities that can have botryoidal (a word meaning "like grapes") agate and occasionally a layer of druzy quartz crystals on top of the bubbly agate. Our goal was simply to find a few geodes worthy of cutting on an old tile saw with a diamond blade that I've used for this purpose in the past. The trip was definitely a success! Let us know what other kinds of gem, mineral or fossil hunting adventures you'd like to see in the future. More geode hunting and cutting?
