http://www.senseiryan.com - How to build a backyard zipline, zip line. Zip lines can be very dangerous, so proceed at your own risk. However, making your own zip line is oh so fun and very simple as well. You can find horror stories everywhere about people who have been injured making a zip setup so please understand the risks.
Items we used to construct it (full zip line parts and tool list):
1. 50' - 500' of Wire from Home Depot (or other similar store)
2. 3 Wire connectors for the loose end of the wire (see video)
3. 2 Ton Puller (purchase from Harbor Freight or Home Depot)
4. Chain, tow rope or another 2 Ton Puller
5. Pulley
6. Hook to Connect to Pulley
7. Weight lifting - Straight Tricep Bar (to use as zip line handle)
8. Foam and Duct Tape to cover the Bar
Tools Needed:
1. Ratchet and 1/2" Socket to connect the connectors
Attach the first end at the proper height and then make sure you attach your zipline low enough on the other end so you can tighten down the bolts.
Then once they are tight enough, raise the bottom end to the desired height and tighten down the 2 Ton Puller.
Your new zip line will loosen up as you use it, so tighten down the puller as you go.
Note: You can also add a stop to the bottom, but we just use the connectors and 2 ton puller as a makeshift stop for us.
CAUTION: Never even consider making anything like this without proper parental consent and supervision. You should always add a proper zip line safety seat, a harness, and a cable to attach to the zip line itself. Also wear proper safety gear such as a helmet and safety pads. The one we made is very low off the ground. Never attempt to make anything that is high up. Zip Lines are dangerous. Proceed at your own risk. You have been warned.
