This is why the Nomads call houses the graves of the living.
Something you must be aware of about maps is that they all have a margin of error.
and by that I mean All, even google earth.
I'm guessing here but I think as follows:
The Rule of thumb here is that the Larger the Scale like 1:25,000 or larger
the more precise it is and the less margin of error you will find. (it's more zoomed in and appropriate to imagine as a hiker, coz let's face it, you are not a airplane)
While the Smaller the Scale like 1:1,000,000 or smaller
the less precise it is and the more margin of error you will find.
That's probably a scale that big enough for all France to have on the same size paper of the 1st scale mentioned (1:25,000).
In other words, the bigger a square grid covers (more land in a square) the less precise and the more margin of error exists.
So maps are all about perspective, what do you want to see exactly is the question.
unless you are Terminator2 and have a microscope in your eyes and have a map that has nanometer lines in it. ;)
