There are a number of concepts in medicine that have been around for hundreds of years which are still useful to the clinician.  "Double-Sickening" is one of those oldie but goodie concepts.  This applies most commonly to bacterial sinusitis and pneumonia and describes the onset of a fever and worsening of the patient's condition after a period of viral respiratory tract signs and symptoms that raises the probability of a secondary bacterial infection.
