In today’s video, I’m going to show you how to add a password to your Windows 10 computer.

This tutorial is for those of you that are using Windows 10, and have not previously set a password before.

To get started:
1. Go into the Windows search bar, and type in “Password”.
2. Now click on the “Change your password” system settings search result.
3. A “Sign-in Options” dialog window will now appear.
4. From here, click on the “Password” section.
5. From this section, you can add a password to your Windows computer, simply by clicking on the “Add” button.
6. Now click on the “Add” button to add a password.
7. A “Create a password” dialog window will now open, from here we can enter our password in the “New password” field, and the “Confirm password” field. We also have the option to add a password hint if we wish to have a hint available on the Windows login screen.
8. For demo purposes I’m going to add a password to both fields.
9. Now for the password to apply, I’m going to click on the “Next” button, and then on the next screen, click on the “Finish” button.
10. Your password will now be applied to your Windows computer, and the next time you turn your PC on, you’ll be asked to enter your password.

Why is setting a password on your computer important?

Setting a password on your computer is important for several reasons:

Security: A password acts as the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your computer. Without a password, anyone can access your files, personal information, and potentially compromise your privacy and security.

Data Protection: Your computer likely contains sensitive and personal information, such as documents, emails, and login credentials. A password helps prevent unauthorized users from accessing and misusing this information.

Identity Theft Prevention: In the age of digital connectivity, identity theft is a significant concern. A password helps protect your digital identity by restricting access to your personal data and online accounts.

Confidentiality: If you use your computer for work or other professional purposes, there may be confidential documents and information stored on it. A password ensures that only authorized individuals can access this sensitive data.

Financial Security: If you perform online banking or use financial applications on your computer, a password is crucial for preventing unauthorized access to your financial information and transactions.

Remote Access Prevention: Without a password, someone could gain remote access to your computer, either through malicious software or by exploiting vulnerabilities. A password helps mitigate the risk of unauthorized remote access.

Parental Control: If you share a computer with family members, especially children, setting a password allows you to control and restrict access to certain content, applications, or settings.

Compliance and Best Practices: Many security policies and best practices recommend or require the use of passwords to protect devices and data. Adhering to these guidelines helps ensure that your computer is secure and less susceptible to potential threats.
