This is a long review for a single song but the music is
definitely worth the mention and more importantly hearing.
Latasha Lee's Single: 'Get Away' is a superbly performed,
Ethnically Influenced, Retro Work with its roots in Mid 20th
Century American Popular Music.

The song's style is a direct descendant of late 1940s
( esp the Fifties )into the Mid 1960s Doo-Wop Style of Music
made famous( initially) by Black American Artists.

Strictly speaking Doo-Wop is probably more associated with
Acappella( singing without instrumentation) of several very
popular Male Groups and Vocalists-- The Marcels,
Little Anthony & the Imperials, Shep & the Limelites ,
The Platters, The Capris and many many more) but Female
Vocalists eventually made their mark as well, The Shirelles,
Rochell & the Candles, Kathy Young & the Innocents and
likewise many others.

The main thing all of the aforementioned groups/individuals
have in common was a fabulous manner of harmonization that
was the forerunner to Rock, Soul and R &B. Latasha's Single
demonstrates elements of the style perfectly.

Yet this is only the beginning of the Great Things found
in the work. Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick and many other
'Divas", who came in the next Musical Wave in the 1960s had
power and sentiment in their vocals that also included more
instrumental accompaniment and greater musical
range/variety--this too is found in Lee's album.

Personal data
LaTasha Lee was born in Corpus Christi, TX. At an early age
Tasha's mom, Michelle Herron knew she was destined
to perform. Singing since the age of three, Tasha often
entertained family and friends with her rendition of
"Stop In The Name Of Love" by the Supremes. By age nine
Tasha and her sister Tonya (age ten) started performing at
school talent shows and local community events in Corpus
Christi. The family relocated to Austin TX two years later
which opened up new opportunities for Tasha. Tasha and
Tonya quickly linked up with some other girls and formed
the group "The Homegirls" and began performing at various
events (Pecan Street Festival, Jump On It, The Black Expo)
and venues (The Victory Grill, Luling Civic Center).
One of the highlights was receiving a proclamation from the
Mayor declaring it "Homegirls Day" for a day. By age
fourteen, KAZI 88.7 was spinning a song entitled
"Street Life" by local rapper named "Pac Man"
with Tasha performing the hook. After signing with
Carnival Beats, Tasha has performed throughout Texas at
different events and is putting the finishing touches on
her album. Her biggest fans include her parents, Michelle
& William (step-dad), Roy & Mary Alice (step-mom),
two sisters, Tonya and Ashlee and her brother Willie.
"I've been blessed with the honor of working with Salih on
an album. I want my music to touch other people.
This has always been my passion. Music is a part of me and
I wouldn't trade this for anything. So here we come with
some Third Coast R&B" ..Latasha Lee Robinson

Lyrics

[Chorus]
I need to get away from you
You're like a bad habit and I can't have it
You're blocking me it's like a fire hazard
I need to get away from you
You got a lot of baggage I can't keep packing
We're steady clashing I need to get passed it

You walk around with a chip on your shoulder
And acting like the whole world just owes you
You push me back when I try to get closer
Another day that I'm wishing it's over
We have a daughter and one on the way
We got these deals and havoc and pain
I used to think everything was okay
But now see that we ain't on the same page

[Chorus]
I need to get away from you
You're like a bad habit and I can't have it
You're blocking me it's like a fire hazard
I need to get away from you
You got a lot of baggage I can't keep packing
We're steady clashing I need to get passed it

Everyday you seem to grow much colder
And now I'm thinking that you might be but polar
You wanna fly under any condition
And now the neighbors know all our business
You try to keep me from my mamma in days
It makes you feel good when I'm not happy when I'm not happy
If I leave you said I wasn't gonna make it
But I'd be crazy if I sit here and take it

[Chorus]
I need to get away from you
You're like a bad habit and I can't have it
You're blocking me it's like a fire hazard
I need to get away from you
You got a lot of baggage I can't keep packing
We're steady clashing I need to get passed it

Oh gotta get away from you so tired of your attitude
If I were to stay everything will still be lame
Gotta get away from you
Gotta get away from you so tired of your attitude.
