Around 1:58 AM on April 7, 2022, Officer Joshua Santos with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a 2012 Nissan Rogue on Barnett Shoals Road near Security Circle. The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department was already on scene when he arrived, and he noticed that the vehicle had struck a pole and a female was trapped inside. Witnesses told the officer that the driver of the vehicle had moved into the passenger seat when she learned that officers were headed there, and she was threatening to run after they freed her from the vehicle. Firefighters used special tools to break the windows and doors and free the occupant of the vehicle a few minutes later. The officers then made contact with the driver, who was eventually identified as 21-year-old Ansley Ellis. Officer Santos asked her what happened, and Ansley denied operating the motor vehicle even though no one could have escaped the vehicle because all doors were blocked. Ansley also admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening at Bar South, and told the officer that she was headed home. Based on her state of impairment, Officer Santos decided against administering field sobriety tests and placed Ansley under arrest for DUI. After Ansley was placed under arrest, Officer Santos read her the Georgia Implied Consent Card, and she agreed to submit breath samples. Around this time, a search of her vehicle revealed a small open container Fireball in her purse. Officer Santos transported Ansley to the Athens-Clarke County downtown substation to complete the breath test. Her Intoxilyzer results indicated a BAC of 0.228% and 0.223%, which is nearly triple the legal limit of 0.08%. After Ansley submitted breath samples, Officer Santos transported her to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center (PARMC) to obtain a medical clearance before taking her to jail. After she was medically cleared, Officer Santos transported her to the Clarke County Jail for further processing. Officer Santos issued Ansley the following summonses: DUI – Alcohol, Too Fast For Conditions, Failure to Maintain Lane, Possession of Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in Passenger Area, and Seat Belts Required. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
