The Benefits of Zirconia Implants: Explained

There's been a lot of interest in zirconia implants, but many dental professionals don't place them because it involves a lot of equipment, training and work.  So it can be hard to find people who do them!  

Why would you want zirconia instead of titanium? Titanium is bio-inert and used for many different medical procedures, but a lot of patients are concerned about having something metallic stuck in their jawbone.  Zirconia is actually a ceramic, and the body tends to adapt really quickly to the zirconia implant - it tends to be more biocompatible. Zirconia has a high fracture-resistance, it doesn't corrode, and it has a high longevity due to wear-resistance.

In some cases, zirconia implants can often be performed the same day as a tooth extraction, as well as in a 2-step operation.
