Burma: Ethnic Minority Groups Before and After the 2021 Coup

Josh Kurlantzick, a journalist and senior fellow for Southeast Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations, discusses the history of ethnic minority groups in Burma, also known as Myanmar.  He discusses how some minority ethnic groups have a long legacy of conflict with Burma’s military, which has historically used “brutal tactics” against them.  He explains how the coup has impacted the situation.
