THE ART OF POINTILLISM - A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by George Seurat

This painting made George Seurat the leader of the Neo Impressionist movement. To create this composition he studied the science of colours and optics, as he wanted to prove that in order to make the painting look brighter, it was best to keep the colours pure and mix them together on the canvas by placing small dots of different tones next to each other. This technique is called "Pointillism".
