Climbing expedition to the top
Climbing expedition to the top of British highest mountain via iconic Tower ridge with my kids Jonáš [8] and Luisa [12] and also our friend Callum - young ambitious Scottish mountaineer and outdoor enthusiast from Burntisland in Fife where we live.
First day we walked up to the base of the ridge and set up base camp under impressive, beautiful North face right at the base of Douglas boulder and Tower ridge. Next day early morning we started climbing up this long, physically and mentally demanding route full of technically quite easy rock climbing but with many difficulties, dangers and very different obstacles and situations along the way.
My plan was to climb Douglas boulder first and then deal with Tower ridge. In winter an absolute classic, however climbing the ridge together in a lovely summer day as a family Team with Callum and exploring places like Little tower or going up Great tower via Eastern traverse and atmospheric Cave was still special and unique opportunity for all of us. The most worrying crux section exposed Tower gap was supposed to be a final challenge for our Team. Positioned high up on the ridge and approached by many climbers already tired later in the day can be a serious problem for even an experienced adult..
