3. Their Cons

So how do sprays work? Sprays attempt to stop corrosion from forming by coating the vehicle or structure and preventing the iron & oxygen coming into contact.
From our experience, sprays can be a very effective method for protecting against corrosion and this is why:
1. They are effective because they stop rusting before it starts.
2. They prevent structural and surface rust.
3. You can see them – meaning you can check on the condition of the protection at any time.
4. And they typically last from 3-10 years (on average)
So in terms of effectiveness, there are some great upside to sprays. But to get the full picture, let’s examine their limitations:
1. The main limitation of sprays is that they don’t cover the entire vehicle – but only work on the areas applied – which is typically the underside of the vehicle.
2. Sprays typically require check-ups every 6-12 months
3. And may need re-application or touch ups
4. The spray coating is sticky & often attracts sand, dirt or other particles.
5. As a result can be a hassle when you want to do mechanical work – as they coat the entire underside of your vehicle
6. Finally, sprays are chemical in nature and as a result they’re not environmentally friendly
So, what do these sprays cost?
Main Spray: $500-800 (typically)
Touch Ups: $30-100
Re-Sprays: $300-500
Cost Over 10 Years: $500-$1100 depending on the type of spray you get done, how well it’s done and how often it needs re-application or touching up.
