Weber State University (WSU) - Automotive Technology Department - Transmission Lab. This is the third in a series of videos on universal joints, constant velocity joints, and driveshafts. In this episode, we look at the history and proper terminology of universal joints from Hieronymus Cardano and his 1557 swiveling gimbal, to Robert E. Hooke and his 1675 sundial, to Christopher Polhem's 1697 "Re-invention", to Clarence W. Spicer's 1904 improvements to today's modern universal joints.
