This video gives children a strategy of how to read longer words by decoding each syllable in turn before putting the longer word together.
The video includes a demonstration of a selection of two-syllable words with the chance for children to practice reading the words independently to build up their 'speedy reading' of longer words.
This video will support children in Year 1 or Year 2 for Section 2 of the Year 1 Phonic Screening Check where they are expected to read longer words using their phonics skills.
