Ask Phil SPSS: coding AGE groups

How would I enter my data for age if it is in categories of 18-24, 25-35, 36-45, 46-55, 56-65, and 65+?
Would it be the same as for gender? Using nominal data and coding the values so for instance 18 = 18-24?
