Paper Piece - Part 1- Drawing your own Foundation Paper Piecing Templates

Hello my quilting family!

Today, I'm going to show you how to draw your own Foundation Paper Piecing Templates.

We are going to need the following items:
Pencil (or pen)
Ruler
Graphing paper with 1/4 inch squares
Tape (if you drafting a larger piece so you can tape the sheets together)
Freezer paper
And most important, a willingness to try something new!!

It is important to also understand that if 2 pieces have to be sewn together before they are pieced together, that creates a break. For instances, the simple four patch block has to have at least both sides of the 2 pieces sewn together before it can create a four patch. This can create a break in the foundation but be matched up later after sewn to create a perfect 4 patch. This technique would be used if the 4 patch is very small or if there are many sewn pieces being joined together in a complex star quilt block.

The foundation Paper pieced templates I drew were very simply and a block could be completed from just drawing one paper block.

Some foundation paper pieced templates have several template blocks sewn together to make a very complex block.

I do hope you try this technique to draw your own foundation paper pieced templates.

Remember, there is no quilt police and you can make and break any rule that you want when you can draw your own FPP's.
