Helix Dumper unloading trial in 2015

Kiruna Wagon's Helix Dumper has an unloading capacity of 25,000 tonnes/hour. In this older clip of an unloading trial in 2015, the unloading is carried out at a rate of approx. 12,000 tonnes/hour.

The Helix Dumper offers several advantages compared to a rotary car dumper. For example, the rolling discharge of the Helix Dumper is gentler on the wagon couplings than the repeated start and stop movements that occur during stationary unloading. The system also offers a huge annual total capacity thanks to its fast and simple unloading station. While the Helix Dumper is a more complex wagon, its unloading station comes to a much lower capex cost than that of a rotary car dumper.

From an energy standpoint, it is an advantage that the Helix Dumper can discharge its load close to ground level. A rotary car dumper empties its load sometimes as deep as 15 metres into the ground and the ore must then be transported up to ground level, often at a high energy cost.
