First of all you start with the drawing of the big surfaces.Use a soft line because later on you will have to shade or color the shoe. You learned from my previous video about the shading of two surfaces: pearls and leather. This time, we will apply what we learned on the surface of a shoe. After drawing the construction of this shoe, you will have to draw in line the scales of the leather as you can see in the drawing. Then use your black 8B pencil to shade the interior of the shoe. Once you did that, add the big surfaces that are in shadow: the tip of the shoe or some scales in the upper part of it. Remember, if the pencils are too greasy, you need to add a white sheet of paper under your drawing hand. Be sure to keep the drawing clean because this exercise is quite difficult and it will be a pity to let your drawing get dirty. When shading, imagine where the light comes from. This will help you create the volume. Each scale should respect the same principle of light and shadow as the whole surface of the shoe. Regarding the stages of drawing textured surfaces, the easy way is to draw after another drawing. In this case, the video I made. Then, if you want to try a more advanced stage, use a photo or an image found on the internet and try to copy it in a drawing. Carefully observe the light and shadow, the textures and the shape of the shoe. The last stage, for professionals, would be to actually draw the shoes just taking a look at a real model, in front of you. This is the most difficult. Coming back to our drawing, after adding the big shadow on the side of the shoes, start shading the heel. When shading metal, keep in mind that the difference between light and shadows are very sharp. Therefore, you will shade the surface with vertical stripes like you can see. After adding the big shadow in the middle of the shoe, use your 8B pencil to underline the shadow in the interior side. Draw the cast shadow of the shoe now. If you don't draw it, the shoe will appear like floating. Continue with the scale pattern and from time to time just add shadow on the whole side of the shoe to underline the volume. At the end, if there is the need, you can add more contrast between the scales, just to make sure they look 3D. The last thing to do is the heel shadow projected on the plane surface.
