Once again we read an article about why people “Hate HR” and this time it’s expressing the feelings of HR professionals who say “the job has become an exasperating ordeal. People hate us.” While I certainly empathize with the comments, in this podcast I put this into perspective. And the story is simple: HR is a complex, difficult, and highly strategic profession. If we as HR leaders don’t treat it as such, we suffer the fate of being dismissed or under-valued by our companies. Some of this is our fault, and some of it is simply driven by history. As I explain in the podcast, the importance of HR roles is skyrocketing, so let this podcast (and article) be a wakeup call for HR staff to up their game, turn into a consultant, and build your own sense of confidence and professional capabilities.
