In my last video, I started building a new CNC machine with the aim of milling steel using a 3018 CNC. Since the 3018 CNC is very flimsy and can only be used to mill wood and plastic, I build the first version of my CNC using plywood brackets.
After the first version was built, now I'm ready to cut Aluminum brackets to make the machine more sturdy and rigid to mill steel.
After changing all the brackets to Aluminum and also the spindle setup to a lower speed and higher torque one, I was able to mill steel at low speed.
After many tests, I found out that the Aluminum frame is not sturdy enough for steel milling. There were vibrations and also the machine couldn't cut steel at the exact stepover distance defined in Fusion 360. I will have to find another way to make a sturdy for steel milling.
