National Day is a landmark date to reflect on the history of Laos and the ethnic Lao people fighting bravely against foreign colonialists to protect their territory and bring independence and freedom to the Lao people.
History has it that Laos was under the yoke of colonialism and oppression for more than 100 years. The Lao PDR was made possible by the fight and sacrifice of all ethnic Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party which resulted in national liberation on December 2, 1975.
After national liberation, the Party and government put great efforts into the implementation of the foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation in a consistent and comprehensive manner in order to further strengthen external relations and carry out international obligations.
This has contributed tremendously to the common cause for peace, friendship, stability, and cooperation for development based on the principles of mutual benefits in the region and the world at large.
Now all Lao people are proud of their independence and the outcomes of their development over the past 40 years. The country's economic growth currently stands at around 7.5 percent and the poverty rate is declining continuously.
