Or maybe you have a trench in your garden for your new extension that’s filled with water? The easiest way to remove the water is with one of these. These are pumps, and you can hire them from Speedy, the UK’s number one hire company. A couple of good things to remember when hiring from Speedy, all our hire equipment is checked, tested, cleaned and serviced before every hire and will come ready to go. You’ll also notice a folder attached to your product, these are safety and operating instructions, please make sure you read these before you begin your job. Before you use a water pump it’s really important that you wear the correct PPE. Eye protection, gloves and safety boots are essential, and any PPE you do require can be purchased from Speedy. There are two types of water pump that you can hire from Speedy. A puddle pump like this or a submersible pump, like this. Both pumps essentially do the same job which is to remove water from an area you don’t want water to be, and both are really easy to use. A puddle pump will suck up every last drop of water and is ideal for removing clean water, say from a pond or a swimming pool. By contrast a submersible pump is perfect for dirtier water, thanks to this cage around the pump mechanism and its larger diameter outlet. Any mains powered equipment you hire from Speedy can come with one of three types of plug, a UK standard domestic plug that can be plugged into any household socket, a yellow 110v plug which will require a transformer, or a blue 240v plug that will require an RCD unit. But don’t worry, whatever you require your Speedy service centre will provide you with everything you need to power up your equipment. And no matter the shape or size of your transformer or RCD unit plugging it in will be exactly the same, just simply lift the flap and push it in. No matter which pump you hire from Speedy it will come with a hose that simply attaches to the pump. This can be tightened with the hose clip and then the other end just needs to be positioned near a drain. A rope will also be provided for you to lower the pump into position. You should never use the electrical cable to do this as you can damage the pump, potentially making it unsafe to use. Once you have your pump in position, it can be turned on by simply plugging it in. If you need to remove the pump for any reason or reposition it, you should always disconnect it from the mains beforehand. A good tip for when using a submersible pump, it’s advisable to position the pump a few inches from the ground, say on a house brick. This will make it less likely for mud to get blocked up in the pump and could save you a load of time.
