Surprising no-one, Betruger has been working against the people of Mars City from the very beginning. Whether he was the one who originally orchestrated the attack by the strange creatures or was tempted to join their side by the promise of power, riches or simply survival is anyone’s guess and doesn’t really matter at this point. All that matters is that he’s an enemy and that he’s got far more control of the facility than we do which is bad as he’s started filling the place we’re in with poisonous gas.
It’s a good thing that the poison gas is event driven just like everything else, meaning we can spend as long as we like exploring the areas leading up to the control panels we’ll be using to get rid of it. An actual time limit would have forced us not to slowly scour each and every corridor for goodies and baddies, not to mention it’d prevent us from backtracking to safer places every time the latter showed up. The game is starting to get sneakier with placing enemies behind us when ambushes happen but it’s rarely anything nastier than an imp for the time being, something I’m very thankful for.
