I'm sorry, please bear with this simplest step by step instruction.
-first you need a full cream/fresh milk. If you can have the non UHT kind of milk this will work better and give a lot of finish product
-the powdered sugar is optional
-boil your milk upto near boiling point.If you do not have a thermometer, you can just let it sit in the stove at medium heat. You have to continue stirring the milk to prevent it to curdle and just let it reach a near boiling point. Turn off the heat if you reach this period.
-let the milk cool down to lukewarm temperature
-you need a greek yogurt. This will be your mother yogurt. No matter how many liters of milk you are making you only need onw and same amount of mother yogurt.
- when the milk is in lukewarm temperature, temper the yogurt with milk to make sure the yogurt will blend and mix completely well with the milk.
- cover the milk with a clean cloth, do not cover with anything that can seal it completely otherwise your milk will spoil. A cheesecloth or thin pillow case will make the job.
- rest it for 4-10 hours, check it every once in a while with in this period if the milk has thicken up.
-if after this given time and your milk hasn't turn into a yogurt, probably your place has low temperature, you can use this method wich I always use and work perfectly. Get a bowl with boiling water and place the bowl with your milk on top. This will warm the milk and makes the live micro organism multiply fast and will turn your milk into a yogurt.
-when the milk has thickened place it in the refrigerator or you can consume, use it for cooking and baking and what not.
- when your milk taste bitter means your milk is over fermented, it is not spoiled but the micro organism has multiply a lot that it turns the taste
-does your milk is spoiled if it taste sour, well yogurt has sour milk taste to it natirally, so unless it has this black or gray liquid in there you will be fine.
-it taste really sour because most yogurt in the market has sugar and some flavoring so if you want to add sweetness to it, just add a little amount of sugar.
-yes you can make ice cream/froyo with this or place it in an ice cream machine and it will taste amazing!
- if you want to turn it into creamcheese/thick greek yogurt. Just strain the whey for 1-2 days using cheese cloth. You can use this to every bake product using or asking for cream cheese
- and that's it!
