The Surface Pro 11 has seen a significant upgrade this year, now featuring an ARM processor instead of an Intel one. Despite Microsoft's previous attempt with the Surface Pro X, this iteration shows promising improvements in emulation capabilities, processor speed, and broader app support. However, it's not without flaws, which I'll discuss later in the video.
The build quality continues to impress with an anodized aluminum casing and a rigid kickstand. The device still features a 13” size with rounded corners, two USB-C ports with USB 4.0, and an easily accessible SSD. Despite the charger being downgraded from 65W to 39W and losing the USB-A port, fast charging via USB-C is still available. The OLED display is impressive, with a peak brightness of 900 nits and excellent color fidelity, crucial for creative professionals. However, the display is quite reflective, though an anti-reflective screen protector can solve this issue.
The new Flex keyboard, though expensive, offers enhanced sturdiness and a robust typing experience. However, the repositioning of the pen tray causes discomfort during prolonged typing. The ability to use the keyboard wirelessly is handy, especially when docking the device to an external monitor. Nonetheless, there are issues with the wireless connection and charging, which I hope will be resolved with a firmware update. The Slim Pen 2 is now more accessible, but I prefer the hidden design of the previous signature keyboard. The Surface Pro 11’s onboard AI features are intriguing, though I haven't utilized them much.
In terms of performance, the ARM-based Surface Pro 11 has limitations, such as the inability to download Google Drive to the desktop and laggy PDF annotation in Edge. While Adobe Premiere Pro is not yet ARM-compatible, the beta version of DaVinci Resolve offers a decent experience with occasional stuttering. However, performance in Photoshop and Lightroom is smooth. The drawing experience with the Slim Pen 2 is good, with less jittery lines compared to previous models, although not perfect for fine details. The battery life is decent, offering around 10 hours of usage in balanced mode. Overall, the Surface Pro 11 is a solid choice for schoolwork, creative tasks, and light photo editing, though improvements are needed for video editing and app compatibility.
