10 festivals that iv'e personally covered & photographed - each one having it's own feel and vibe & with over 42,000 major & minor festivals annually in the Philippines there's definitely no shortage !

1) Sinulog - Cebu City. A nine day festival Marathon consisting of religious processions and parades, culminating in one of the largest street dancing parades in the Philippines taking place on the 3rd Sunday in January.
2) Dinagyang - Iloilo City. The highlight of the festival is the Ati Tribe competition consisting of a number of tribal "warrior" dance groups.
3) Ati-Atihan - Kalibo, Panay Island. Similar to Sinulog and Dinagyang  this event is celebrated to honour the Child Jesus, Santo Niño. Street dancing groups wear colourful costumes, with black body & face paint, festival goers joining in with the procession as it winds through the City.
4) Masskara - Bacolod City.  The MassKara festival is otherwise known as the 'festival of smiles' due to the tradition of creative colourful smiling masks that dance groups wear during the street dancing competition.
5) Kaamulan - Bukidnon, Mindanao. The festival celebrates the diverse cultural indigenous tribal way of life in the area, Seven tribes namely the Talaanding, Tigwahanon, Matigsalug, Higaonon, Bukidnon, Manobo and Umayamnon, take part in the spectacular street dancing procession.
6) Lanzones - Camiguin Island, Mindanao. The event is a harvest celebration honouring the small Lanzones fruit which grows abundantly on the Island. Highly colourful dance contingents wind their way through the streets culminating in a dance showdown at the local Sports Centre.
7) Imbayah - Banaue. The festival, held in April, celebrates Ifugao culture which involves native dances performed in the streets, community parades, a wooden scooter race, a marathon race and local native games.
8) Pawikan - Morong, Bataan. A festival focusing on the environmental protection of turtles (Olive Ridley, which lay their eggs on the nearby coastal beaches. Dance groups perform on the beach with cute little baby turtles being released to the sea.
9) Mudpack - Negros Occidental. Held in the grounds resort of Mambukal, the festival celebrates the value of the natural environment. Dance groups highlighting issues with colourful theatrical performances.
10) Punnuk - Banaue. Held in the Hapao rice terraces Punnuk celebrates the rice culture of the region. Paying homage to the flowing river which provides the essential water for the crops, an intriguing tug of war takes place in the river with all of the community involved. #philippinefestivals #tourismphilippines #travelphilippines
