Harrison, AR - Proclamation to Citizens of Harrison and Boone County

FULL PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the citizens of Harrison and Boone County, Arkansas pride themselves as a community where people of all races and walks of life can live, work, play, and worship together in peace and harmony in the natural beauty of the Ozarks; and

Whereas, dedicated citizens work daily to foster and promote the image and reality of Harrison as a cohesive, warm community to all people of peace and goodwill, and to combat the inaccurate image of the city as a racist community; and

Whereas, treating everyone with dignity and respect, recognizing differing perspectives and beliefs, increasing communications and learning to overcome challenges from those perspectives, facilitating resolutions to community issues, seeking to integrate programs, resources and capabilities to maximize the community’s image are guiding principles for all; and

Whereas, a collaboration of local leaders and community members routinely advocate diversity, foster reconciliation, and promote civility and respect through the Harrison Community Task Force on Race Relations; and

Whereas, on June 4th and 5th, 2020, civil protests were held in Harrison, Arkansas denouncing the unjustified death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and on the two days several hundred people demonstrated around the Courthouse Square; and

Whereas, Harrison and Boone County citizens organized, led and participated in both demonstrations peacefully and not a single incident of unlawful behavior necessitated intervention of law enforcement personnel.

Now, therefore, be it proclaimed that the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce representing the Harrison and Boone County business community hereby recognizes, supports and thanks the Citizens of Harrison and Boone County, Arkansas for taking a stand and their peaceful assembly, both of which paid huge dividends in continuing to reveal the City and County as a tolerant, hospitable community.
