Als ik 's ochtends voor mijn werk (of juist aan het eind van de middag) door het Elzenpad in Alblasserdam wandel, dan hoor ik daar zowel de zanglijster als de merel zingen. Beide tuinvogels zijn meesterlijke zangers, waarbij ik eerlijk gezegd een lichte voorkeur heb voor de zang van de zanglijster. Luister maar eens goed. Het lied van de zanglijster is een stuk dynamischer en energieker dan dat van de merel met zijn ietwat melancholische lied. Het is overigens maar goed ook dat beide lijsterachtigen een ander lied hebben, want anders zouden ze maar in de war raken.
When I walk through the Elzenpad in Alblasserdam in the morning before work (or at the end of the afternoon), I hear both the song thrush and the blackbird singing there. Both garden birds are masterful warblers, and honestly, I have a slight preference for the song thrush. Just listen carefully. The song of the song thrush is a lot more dynamic and energetic than that of the blackbird with its somewhat melancholic song. It is also a good thing that both thrushes have a different song, because otherwise they would get confused.
