Figured a late 1980's 4903 series device would make it on my "testing desk" at some point. Here's one, a 4903-9101 strobe plate with a 2902-9732 speaker (LifeAlarm) mounted right on it.

The strobe plate is a horizontal lensed strobe with a 4x4 mount right below it. The strobe does not meet ADA requirements as it is only a 4.75CD strobe (and 3.95 on 19vdc!). Furthermore, it only flashes at only 45 flashes/second. Although it may no longer be up to code today, these are pretty neat strobes. Believe it or not, these particular strobes were actually manufactured by Gentex, but redesigned for Simplex's use. The ADA reincarnation of this is the 4903-9105. This is a vertical strobe with the 4x4 mount to the side, as opposed to below the strobe, and uses Gentex's signature lens from the era (keep in mind, also made by Gentex).

The speaker is a 2902 series Life Alarm speaker. Life Alarm was the name of the speaker series that Simplex produced in the 1980's (mine is from 1983). These speakers came in the form as you see here, alongside a flush mounted version (-9734) and even one that's embedded in a 2903 series visual notification device (-9739). These speakers would commonly be paired with an advanced Simplex system offering at the time with advanced voice evac capabilities. The speaker itself is not too much different from Simplex speakers produced later, such as in the 4903 series (refer to my 4903-9147 video, where I show the speaker itself)

What puzzles me is the combination of these two devices (I got the device with this particular combination). Although the LifeAlarm speaker was produced in the early 1980's, the 4903 series debuted later in the 1980's. More than likely, the -9732 speaker was actually sitting around on a shelf, and later installed with the 4903-9101. More than likely, this was on a 4100 system, which also came out the same period these did.

1: It is a FELONY to pull a fire alarm in public to falsely report a fire (i.e. "Just for fun). A fire alarm in a public building should only be pulled if there is actually a fire or other emergency. However, this is being activated in a controlled and legal environment, an enthusiast's test setup. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.

2: This video contains flashing lights from a strobe. Those prone to seizures from flashing lights SHOULD NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.

3: The voice evac messages heard in the video are demos from the companies they come from. They are being used to simply demonstrate the speaker of the alarm.

I AM NOT responsible for any legal damages done for pulling a false alarm, or for any seizures. These are your decisions, not mine!
