Back in 1972, scientists discovered fossilized remains of a giant salmon relative from around 5 million years ago. The fish could grow 8 feet long, and the paleontologists compared their large projecting teeth to that of a saber-toothed cat. But now, after new discoveries and modern technology, researchers from the University of Oregon and Oregon State University say those teeth are really more like tusks the fish might’ve used to dig or defend themselves.
