00:00 - Bratislava Old Town
02:25 - Bratislava Castle
04:36 - The Blue Church
06:32 - The Danube Bank

1) Bratislava Old Town
In the main square, there is a Napoleon's Army Soldier statue commemorating the two occasions on which the Napoleonic Army entered the city in the 1800s.  You can find the Beautiful Ignaz, which is a bronze statue of an eccentric individual who once roamed the streets of Bratislava in the early 20th century. There is also the Cumil Statue is a lovely kind of "man at work" statue, adored by children.

Michael's Gate is the only surviving gate from the city's medieval fortifications, built around 1300. The Slovak National Theatre is the oldest professional theatre in Slovakia, consisting of three ensembles: opera, ballet, and drama. Its history begins shortly after the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic in 1918.

Bratislava's three-nave Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral is built on the site of a previous, Romanesque Church, dedicated to the Holy Saviour, from 1221.Ten kings, one queen and seven royal wives from the Habsburg Dynasty were crowned in St. Martin's Cathedral.

2) Bratislava Castle
The castle stands on an important crossroad of the ancient routes. First traces of settlement on the hill stretch back to the Stone and Bronze Age. The place had its strategic geographical importance in the period of the Great Moravian Empire.

First Hungarian king Stephen I (11th century) ruled over the empire from his seat inside the castle. It remained unconquered during the Tartar raids (1241-1242) and protected Hungary against the attacks from the west. Also, since Vienna is right around a corner, the castle provided a protection for this city too. Bratislava became the official coronation town for Hungarian kings.

3) The Blue Church
The Blue Church stands on the Eastern part of the Old Town on Bezručova Street. It is a quiet street not far from the city centre - a nice  10-15 minute walk, depending on where exactly in the centre you are. When you look at it on a sunny day, it has the same colour as the sky - and has its name for this obvious reason. The façade is blue. The mosaics are blue. The majolicas are blue. Everything, including the pale, blue-glazed roof, is blue.

The church is a work of a Hungarian architect who designed it in the 20th century. We can easily spot a difference from any other church we've seen. It reminds us Gaudi in its appearance.

The ground floor of the Blue Church is oval and the inside is very charming. The interior is richly decorated with altarpieces. On the altar there is an illustration of St. Elizabeth, depicted giving alms to the poor. It is however open very rarely so make sure you check in the open hours.

4) The Danube Bank
Bratislava lies on the beautiful blue Danube River. The river has long been of the utmost importance to Bratislava. In the first century, it served as a border of the Limer Romanus, protecting the Roman Empire from barbaric Germanic tribes. Later it helped protect the city from Tartars and Turks.

One of the most visited shopping centres in Bratislava, full of lounge bars with river views outside. Not only are, there are offices, residencies, leisure and relax components and a 5 star Sheraton Hotel as well.

You can see many boats floating on the river. They serve either as hotels, restaurants/bars, or a combination of the two.

The UFO Bridge is the 7th largest hanging bridge in the world. This "spaceship" is actually an observatory deck and serves also as a restaurant. You can get up there by an elevator which is located in one of its "legs". The ride takes 45 seconds.
