Our adventure begins at the iconic Tarr Steps, an ancient bridge that stretches majestically across the river Barle, resembling an enormous centipede. Discover the intriguing local legend about how the devil himself was involved in its creation, and how the fearless parson changed the fate of the bridge forever.
Next, we'll embark on a hike up Dunkery Hill, reaching the summit of Dunkery Beacon, Somerset's highest point. I'll share my experience of tackling this ascent, and the breathtaking panoramic views that awaited us at the summit.
Our journey continues as we head to Pollock Weir, where the world's second-largest tidal range makes for a unique visit. Explore the dried-up harbor and vast expanse of grey, rounded rocks on Pollock Beach, all while navigating the steep slopes and narrow roads that lead to this hidden gem.
We then embark on a scenic drive to Hartland Quays, a place known for its spectacular cliffs and captivating rock formations. Witness the mesmerizing sunset that graced our evening and our decision to return the next morning to experience its beauty in broad daylight.
Discover the charm of Clovelly, a village with a twist—it charges admission for entry! Explore the rich history of this picturesque village, where donkeys and sledges once ruled the cobblestone streets.
