#Tiger Queen
#Tiger Queen was my first documentary for #NatGeo Wild with this tiger family. I followed them for the next 10 years and made 3 more documentaries for National Geographic.
This tigress (T-17, Satra) had a habit of attacking her siblings from behind. After understanding her character, we positioned our jeep in front of her sister (T-18, Athara), so that we didn't miss out on the action. The fight was pretty short, it turned out to be more like a warning charge. This made the moments building up the fight more important, they were going to be the key elements to add drama. I obviously didn't know how the fight was going to turn out beforehand. But filming tigers had taught me that anything can happen in the wild. So I sequenced my shots the way I usually do - using different angles or magnifications to add variety and flow of actions. This helped immensely in the editing process to build tension and add drama as the fight had only lasted 3-5 seconds.
