😶🌫️ Cloudy with a Chance of Pancakes • IHOP-KC's 24/7 Prayer Worship

The International House of Prayer
The International House of Prayer in Kansas City (IHOP-KC) was founded... not on IHOP pancakes... but on the idea of 24/7 prayer and worship. The prayer room has NEVER STOPPED since starting in 1999.
Typically, I get excited to learn and understand what an individual church does to bring others closer to Christ. But to be forthcoming, this was one of the most DOWNCAST visits I've ever made.
In the past, there's been a few church visits where if I took pictures, a staff member would question my attendance. In each case, there was something going on : whether it was a pastor scandal or the location was closing. That happened here as well.
Most recently... and I wasn't even real clear on what was going on, they've been going through a scandal where so many have been hurt. If you want to know more, you can look online.
For the hour or so I was at IHOPKC, I could feel this large DARK CLOUD hovering over this ministry. Everyone was… quiet. There felt like a lot of unknowns for the future of this ministry. Not long after my visit, their nearby church expression, Forerunner Church, held its final service as they restructure.
In order to have nonstop musical prayer, they introduced what's called the Harp and Bowl style of worship. The name is derived from Revelation 5:8, which describes 24 elders holding a harp and golden bowls of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. It consists of two-hour sets of worship songs and intercessory prayers. Sometimes during worship, one of the singers (or could even be the drummer) may have an "oracle" or word from the Lord. Seeing past videos of how this worked, it could result in a powerful performance.
Reading some of the comments of Forerunner Church's last service, I was surprised to see how many had powerful encounters with God from this prayer room. The prophetic ministry aspect changed many lives to better hear the small voice of God for oneself.
We'll have to see what God has in store for this community.
