How I legally brought 3
How I legally brought 3 non-restricted firearms across 5 border crossings from Canada, into the US, and back into Canada in 2023. Two of the firearms were brought for bear protection in the remote wilderness we spent two months camping in, and the third was for hunting grouse in Canada only.
You'll find out what documentation I required, how and where I got them from, and how long the process took. For every border crossing, you'll see and hear the conversations with border services agents. My research showed that the filming of interactions with border crossing officials was allowed. Additional tips on crossing the border with firearms are at the end of this video.
This video is intended for educational purposes, and filming the border crossings was used to prove that if done legally, carrying firearms across these borders can be done without issues.
The border crossings were located along the Alaska Highway from the Yukon into Alaska and back again into the Yukon, at Haines going into Alaska, at Skagway - Fraser coming from Alaska into British Columbia, and from Hyder Alaska back towards Stewart into British Columbia.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT an expert in transporting firearms in any way. I am merely showing you my experiences with crossing these land borders only. I am a Canadian citizen and have a different process for bringing firearms across the border than American citizens. I highly recommend you do your own research on transporting firearms across land border crossings. Do not rely on this video as a definitive source of information. Crossing borders without the proper documentation and carrying weapons or ammunition that are not allowed into the US or Canada will get you into serious trouble.
My research on filming border crossings indicated that this was legal when crossing land borders into both countries. In the US you may not show the officers directly. In Canada there is no restriction despite the one officers objections. Off camera in this instance I was told that it is preferred not to film but it was not a legal requirement. Out of courtesy, I blurred out the face of this border crossing agent.

This is the form that all Canadians with a valid Possession and Acquisition license require to transport non-restricted firearms into the US. BSF407 - Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation (Proof of Origin)

RCMP GRC 5589e - Non-Resident Firearm Declaration. This form is required to cross the border if you are not a resident of Canada and do not carry a valid Canadian Possession and Acquisition License. https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/wam/media/...
Possession and Acquisition License (PAL). This card is required by all Canadian Citizens who wish to own, purchase guns or ammunition. Applicants must have passed a Canadian Firearms Safety Course to apply for one of these. https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/firearm...
