Installing resilient channel (res channel)
Installing resilient channel (res channel) is an effective low cost method for reducing sound transmission through walls and ceilings. It is installed perpendicular to the ceiling joists and wall studs. Res channel is suitable to use in multiple unit buildings, recording studios, and to improve room to room sound transmission . Drywall only touches the resilient channel ensuring sound transmission never travels through the wood (houses) or steel structure (condo). It can be used for both wall and ceiling applications. The product used in this video is manufactured by Bailey and costs approximately $4.20 CND per 12 ft length.
Material List:
- Resilient channel
- Measuring tape
- Tin snips
- Impact driver or drill
- Pencil or marker
- 1 ¼ " type w pan head screws (for wood studs or joists)
- 10mm (3/8") type s pan head screws (for steel studs or joists)
