On Friday, September 21, at 7 p.m., O’Fallon’s POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony was held on behalf of American troops who remain as prisoners of war on foreign soil, missing in action or unaccounted for.

The ceremony was held at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Veterans Memorial Parkway, O’Fallon.

Mayor Bill Hennessy delivered welcoming remarks, and Bob Garvey, a World War II airman who was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly a year, was the keynote speaker. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 458 and Am Vets Post 106 hosted the ceremony, which included the posting of the colors, dressing of the table, candle lighting, the laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and “Taps.”  Destiny Harding, a sophomore at Living Word Christian School, sang the national anthem and “God Bless America.”
