I visited Bihar, India for
I visited Bihar, India for a little more than a month. I volunteered at a school where I helped to teach some English, drew some pictures, and simply hung out with the kids during the break between classes and tried to make them laugh.
This experience was so unique. I have never experienced a school system that was so underprivileged...so raw. Despite the lack of material wealth, the people were so genuine and nice - the children, the staff, and the people in the village. Everyone wanted to invited me in to their home to offer a meal and/or tea. They were so hospitable!
I recommend that everyone from the west should volunteer at a school like this for at least a few days. It's humbling. It definitely makes us appreciate the life we grew accustomed to back home - on a deeper level.
I hope to visit Bihar again. If I do, I will stop back at this school to say hello to everyone!
