Pastor Emily Scott, most recently of St. Lydia's in Brooklyn, NY, presents "Sacred Meals and Sticky Faith: Worship at Dinner Church and Waffle Church".

ABOUT THIS TALK:

Emily Scott is the founding pastor of St. Lydia’s, a church in Brooklyn, New York, where worship centered around sharing a meal at the table.

At Dinner Church, a gathering of mostly young adults came together each Sunday around the table to bless and share a sacred meal.

Sunday morning, children, families, and folks of all ages gathered around the table again, this time for Waffle Church.

Worship engaged congregants’ hands, minds, and entire bodies, with good food, good smells, crafts projects, new songs to learn, movement, and candle lighting.

Emily will share stories from her time at St. Lydia’s and reflect on the participative practices that allowed worship at St. Lydia’s to be vital, participative, and engage folks of all ages. Then, we’ll share a conversation about how these principles and values might be expressed in Sunday morning worship.

A graduate of Yale Divinity School, Emily received the Alumni Award for Distinction in Congregational Ministry in 2016. Her work has been covered by The Atlantic and the Wall Street Journal, and she was one of the featured speakers at the 2015 ELCA Churchwide Youth Gathering.
