Most people know very little about Amazonia, and even fewer people would consider visiting the area. Amazonia, a vast area in South America, all jungle, and only accessible via the Amazon River, longest in the world. The Napo River begins in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, and becomes navigable near the town of Coca. We spent four days, and nights navigating, and exploring its headwaters via fiberglass canoe. Birds like the Blue and Scarlet McCaws, Toucans, and Black Vultures were everywhere. A plethora of monkeys entertained us swinging in the trees, and we even got a glimpse of the rare pink freshwater dolphin. An invite to the Sani Warm community house for a cooking demonstration was probably the highlight of our visit. They served us foods that they eat daily...some of the jungle cuisine like plantains, and palm hearts were familiar, but some of the delicacies like beetle larvae, not so much!!!
