When you have a cold
When you have a cold hardy fig tree and you're living in zones 5 to 7, you still need to protect your tree to get it safely through the winter and survive. Even if you haven't done that, you can't assume that your tree is dead. Give it a chance. Wait until mid summer to see if it comes back to life.
You'll probably have to do some heavy pruning but there will still be life near the base or crown of the tree...
Don't give up on your fig!
