Welcome Back to the Beach #5! It is our last episode in this series and we thought, lets go back to the very first video we made and get back along to Kirkcaldy, the home of Scottish Spongeware and the best place we know for amazing patterned sea pottery!

It's a gorgeous late summer day and the tides are out, but the wind is really blasting across the sea, working the waves into a storm - what better place to come today!

The long, flat beach, here means the tides comes in very fast, so we head to the waterline before the tides cover the sands! Its the first time we have visited this shoreline in around 6 months and its changed! But its no less generous than before - we find amazing chunky sea glass and plain pottery!

Today we are looking for the best pictorial and decorative pieces we can find for some one of a kind jewellery. But we wanted to do something a little different on Sunday, so we're also collecting the plain pieces we often leave behind... they will be just perfect for a mosaic project!!

There is a soft, warm, tactile quality to the pottery pieces that have washed along these shores for over 100 years... those with patterns offer glimpses of the past - they, just like the past itself, can never be entire or whole here in the present. But that gives them a sublime beauty that we try to enhance when making things with them. Craig takes a look at the Japanese ceramic repair technique, Kintsuki, which shows breaks, missing pieces, that mark the age of things, as an art and among the highest forms of beauty.

We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!
