A K Palanivel is an Indian drum thavil artist from Tamil Nadu. Initially, he learnt thavil drumming from his father S. Kumaravel, and he was given extensive training by T.G. Muthukumara Swamy Pillai from 1959 onwards. He has performed around the globe accompanied by nadaswaram, flute, clarionet, mandolin and saxophone. He won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2001 and received Padma Shri from the Government of India in 2004.
