Needle Chest Decompression in TCCC

UPDATED in accordance with TCCC Guidelines 01 AUG 2018. This video demonstrates the proper placement and insertion of a needle chest decompression (NCD). This video covers the following topics: -Signs to look for that indicate the need of a NCD -How to identify primary site of insertion -How to insert and advance catheter into the pleural space -How to reassess patient after insertion -How to locate alternate site if primary is compromised -How to insert needle in alternate site The Joint Trauma System (JTS) is focused on the standard of care for prehospital battlefield medicine. The JTS is a Department of Defense, Center of Excellence for Trauma providing clinical practice guidelines and performance improvement for all levels of military trauma care. The Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC) is a committee of representatives from across the Army. Navy, Air Force and Marines positioned under the JTS that establishes clinical practice guidelines for the delivery of tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) on the battlefield.
