I am sharing my Winter Cat Shelter in hopes of giving you inspiration for you feral cats shelter. Mine has been successful for 7 years now! I tried the plastic bin styrofoam and hay to start but they would not go in. I got them used to eating under a table and slowly covered it. Once they were used to it I wrapped it in foam rubber and glue gunned a tarp onto it and it just progressed from there! I love the K&H Lectro kennel heated pet mats, they are made to withstand a soaking wet dog have used them for years now. I only had to change one out because it kind of warped. I didn't have it laying completely flat, it still worked, but just to be safe. Best place to get them is Ebay, in the summer! But you can get a small lectro soft sized one for under $30 there. Other tips I would like to share is I feed Wet cat food and I warm up, I mix it with my finger so I KNOW it is not to hot! Then I add a little water to it, so no need to try to keep water out. Oh, I feed as much as they want! Takes a lot more calories to stay warm in the winter and I am home all the time and with the shelter right off my kitchen I can see them easily. I also have a trail camera to monitor any other wildlife in the area, never keep food out at night and where I live is a heavily populated lake area so not much wildlife. Other thing I like about my shelter is the 'flaps' where they go in and out. If the flaps are in I know they are in, if there out then I know they are out. I did get my cat to let me dry her off with a towel, she wasn't always friendly but is now and just loves it. I think she sits in the rain sometimes cause she knows I will dry her off! Well if you have gotten this far Thank You for caring!
