Sunshine Coast locals have turned out to testing clinics and supermarkets after hearing the news that a woman from the Bli Bli area has tested positive to the highly contagious Delta strain of COVID-19.

The woman flew into Brisbane from the Granites gold mine in the Tanami Desert and then travelled to the Sunshine Coast.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the next 24 to 48 hours were "crucial".

"[This case] is confirmed as positive with the Delta strain," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"So it is absolutely important if you are living in or around Bli Bli or the Sunshine Coast that, if you have any symptoms whatsoever, we really need you to go and get tested immediately."

As a result, from 1:00am tomorrow, masks will be mandatory across 11 local government areas in south-east Queensland, including Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.
