Join us for a live Q and A with special guest Breanna Crompvoets from the University of Victoria hosted by Program Coordinator Michael Unger and Astronomer Marley Leacock from the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Breanna Crompvoets is a PhD student studying astronomy at the University of Victoria. Specifically, her research focuses on how stars form, and what criteria need to be met to create a star. She completed her MSc in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria, after earning a BSc in Physics at the University of Regina. Her Masters research focused on how machine learning can be used to identify forming stars in images from the James Webb Space Telescope.

Beyond academia, Breanna actively engages in scientific outreach. She has judged multiple science fairs, and has visited both elementary and high schools to engage students in discussions about physics and astronomy. She is most passionate about these latter discussions, and thoroughly believes in making a career in science feel achievable to students from all backgrounds.
