Dogs 101 - BRUSSELS GRIFFON Top Dog Facts About the BRUSSELS GRIFFON Just like many other dogs, the Brussels Griffons almost becomes an extinct breed due to the danger of the two World Wars, but they were saved thanks to the repopulation made by English breeders. With a Belgian origin, this breed is a mixture of Yorkshire Terrier, Irish Terrier and English toy spaniel. They were very famous and valued and actually are used exclusively as a domestic pet. With very similar characteristics, these are small dogs, sturdy and stocky, with a large round head with very agile and elegant movements. Griffons stand 7 to 8 inches tall and weigh 7 to 12 pound; in very rare occasions, some will grow to be 20 pounds. Like other breeds, cutting their nails, cleaning the ears and brushing their teeth at least once a week, will help prevent diseases in your pet. Temperament: If you are the kind of people how loves be around your dog, this is the best breed for you. The Griffon of Brussels demands a lot of attention because they don’t like loneliness very much. Observers, curious, extroverted, loving and playful these dogs have a strong connection with their human families, becoming in very faithful and loyal companions. Training: Unlike other races, the Griffon of Brussels is very easy to train; only with a little patience is possible to educate him with no inconvenience. The training must be firm, serene, fair and fun, if you want fast and effective results. His energy and need to please his owner will make education a pleasant and fun moment. Health: Just like their relatives, this kind of breed is quite healthy and doesn’t often suffer from dangerous diseases. But, the reality is that, some dogs may occasionally suffer from illness like weak bladder, distichiasis, patellar luxation, canine hip dysplasia (CHD), cataracts, diabetes and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
